Original \\ Tribe on Tour

} Potential Tribe Meet, ahoy!

“I suspect it may be like the difference between a drinker and an alcoholic;
the one merely reads books, the other needs books to make it through the day.”

― Gail Carriger

So, my darlings! One of the most wonderful author's I've had the pleasure of reading is coming to the UK as part of her European tour! This is very exciting for a number of reasons, the main being that this author is none other than Gail Carriger, writer of the Parasol Protectorate series! I know a fair few of my flisters should be aware of her name at the very least, seeing as between galaxy_song and myself you've steadily been receiving her books as presents for the past two years! :D

For those of you who have read her novels (Soulless, Changeless, Blameless, Heartless, and the most recent, Timeless), and would love nothing more than to meet the author herself, a few of us are planning on attending the Steampunk Evening she's hosting at Waterstones, Nottingham on Friday 13th April!

You should all come. No, seriously. There will be Pimms and cake. And people playing dress up, steampunk-style! And asdfg it'll all be terribly exciting, I promise.

For those of you who would love to go but haven't read her novels so terribly sorry but couldn't possibly attend- (and if you think that's a justifiable excuse you clearly haven't known me long enough!)- I now provide you with all of the literature so that your excuses are thus rendered invalid and the only justifications you may henceforth use for not coming along are the ones that have to do with monetary expenses (I know, I know. Usually I'm all about the temptation and making people do these things with me, but seeing as I now have to consider these same monetary expenses since moving to Cardiff, I feel I should at least start to think about other peoples poor bank accounts! See? I'm totally learning! Aren't you proud? :D).

So, without further ado, I bring to you The Parasol Protectorate!

Soulless - Parasol Protectorate 1 Changeless - Parasol Protectorate 2 Blameless - Parasol Protectorate 3 Heartless: The Parasol Protectorate: Book 4 - Parasol Protectorate 4 Timeless - Parasol Protectorate 5
(I'm supplying the summary for book 1 only as the summaries for the others could technically be classed as spoilers!)

Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations. First, she has no soul. Second, she's a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette.
Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire -- and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.
With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London's high society? Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?

Even if you don't want to come to the meet, you have to at least read these books. Seriously, who doesn't love a good "comedy of manners set in Victorian London: full of werewolves, vampires, dirigibles, and tea-drinking."!? And for those of you quivering at the thought of vampires, I can only promise you- there is absolutely not a sparkle in sight. Lord Akeldama's wardrobe notwithstanding. Also, if for nothing else, you should read for the Scottish werewolves (such an uncouth lot, showing off their knees! ;D) and for  Madame Lefoux (who I'd totally cosplay for this event if I had the time), and for Professor Lyall (be still my beating heart!), and poor sweet Biffy, and asdfghj. It's awesome, okay?

For those of you who have read any of the books, lets chat! :D
